Woman Killed after Crashing SUV into Tree and Home in Houston's Briar Forest Area

A woman is dead after a violent crash on Houston’s west side Friday evening, when her SUV slammed into a tree and then into a home.

According to the Houston Police Department, the incident happened shortly before 7 p.m. in the 10700 block of Inwood Drive, located in the Briar Forest neighborhood.

High-Speed Crash Ends in Fatality

Authorities say the woman was driving at a high rate of speed down Walnut Bend Lane when she lost control of the vehicle around a corner, ran a stop sign, and crashed into a tree. The impact did not stop the SUV, which continued into a nearby home.

The driver, whose identity has not been released, died at the scene, according to HPD Lt. Larry Crowson, who estimated the SUV was traveling between 60–70 mph at the time of the crash.

Investigation Underway

An autopsy will be conducted to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.

Lt. Crowson also noted that speeding vehicles are a recurring issue in the neighborhood. The home struck in this incident had also been hit by another vehicle just three months ago.

No one inside the home was injured.
