A massive heat dome moving in from the Bahamas is settling over Florida this weekend, bringing dangerous heat and humidity to the Tampa Bay area and beyond.
Tampa Bay Swelters Under Extreme Heat
As the edge of the heat dome approached Friday, residents in the Tampa Bay area already felt the scorching effects. At St. Pete–Clearwater Airport, the heat index briefly hit 113°F, driven by tropical moisture and dewpoints nearing 80°F.
Forecasters warn that similar conditions are expected on Saturday and Sunday, with high temperatures reaching the mid-90s, roughly 5 degrees above average for this time of year.
Heat Index Could Reach 110°F
With dewpoints remaining in the mid to upper 70s, “feels like” temperatures may again approach 110°F in parts of the region. These numbers are just shy of meeting Heat Advisory criteria from the National Weather Service, which requires widespread heat index readings between 108°F and 112°F.
What to Expect:
- High temperatures in the mid-90s
- Heat index values potentially near 110°F
- Conditions remain hot and humid through Sunday
Although an official Heat Advisory may not be issued, health officials urge caution for outdoor activity this weekend.
