Majority Rules: NJ Towns Show Strong Support for ICE Crackdown!

Customs and Immigration officials have not shared many details, but recent actions follow President Donald Trump’s promise to crack down on illegal immigration. This also comes after a strong warning from New Jersey’s top immigration enforcement official.

Newark ICE Field Office Director John Tsoukaris made it clear that anyone who crosses the border illegally is seen as a criminal.

“If you’re here illegally,” Tsoukaris said, “You shouldn’t be here.”

The crackdown has caused fear among migrant communities and sparked anger among many Democratic officials in New Jersey. After what ICE described as a “targeted enforcement operation” in Newark, Mayor Ras Baraka accused the agency of “unlawfully terrorizing” his city.

Former Senate President and Democratic candidate for Governor Steve Sweeney joined New Jersey 101.5’s Morning Show with Eric Scott and claimed that ICE was operating “illegally” in the state.

Despite strong opposition from New Jersey Democrats and immigrant rights groups, most New Jersey residents seem to support the ICE raids and even want more enforcement.

Many callers to New Jersey 101.5 voiced their support for ICE, saying they welcome the agency in their towns.

Don from Tabernacle said, “Not only would I mind ICE in my town, but I would invite them.”

Gordon from Hamburg echoed the sentiment. “Not only would I welcome ICE, but they can also use my house as a base.”

Dave from Westampton took it a step further, saying, “I absolutely welcome ICE in town or the neighboring towns. I’ll even provide them coffee, water, and lunch.”

The issue of immigration and undocumented individuals has been divisive for years, but with Donald Trump back in the White House, the debate has become even more intense.

Many New Jersey residents are frustrated with Governor Phil Murphy’s sanctuary state policies. They believe these policies make their communities less safe and allow undocumented individuals to stay in the country without consequences.

While Democratic leaders and immigrant rights advocates continue to push back against ICE, it’s clear that many residents in the state strongly support the agency’s efforts and want even tougher enforcement.
