When the North squad meets at Kean on Friday morning at 9, Wallkill Valley’s Chase Lorencovitz will report as a wide receiver. A little over two years ago, the Butlers have always done it that way.
Offense has always been a hallmark of Butler football. Numerous points, game-changing runners and receivers, high throwing stats, and numerous wins.
That was before the arrival of 6-foot-5, 290-pound lineman Jason Murray.
The Bulldogs have had quarterbacks and receivers who have set records and made headlines.
In the trenches, Butler linemen have rarely established themselves.
Murray is among the Bulldogs’ greatest linemen ever. That dates back to before veteran assistant Mark Mickens and even before coach Jason Luciani arrived in the late 1990s.
Luciani remarked, “I never really heard of anyone else like him.” Not many can compare to him, despite what I’ve heard Mark Mickens say. Jason is really amazing.
He will play for the North in the Phil Simms North-South game at Kean on Sunday, giving you another chance to watch him as a Butler player if you missed the first one.
Morristown lineman Giakoby Hills, Randolph linebacker-running back Jesse Wilfong, Roxbury kicker Gunnar Hilsinger, Morristown-Beard running back Marcello Laracca, Pope John punter Jack Morgese, Vernon lineman Jack Austin, and Jefferson lineman Tim Connolly are some of the other notable players from the Morris-Sussex region who will play in the game.
Murray will be playing his first college football game.
