Authorities arrested a 43-year-old
Philadelphia
woman Monday on charges related to death of a 4-month-old infant she was caring for who was found dead inside a trash bag at a Camden home in May, according to police.
Ebony Gee, of Philadelphia, is charged with desecration of human remains and witness tampering, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said Tuesday.
A witness found the baby boy at a home in the 1200 block of Lake Shore Drive in Camden on May 19, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
Gee had been caring for the boy for a friend since mid April, in the Camden home, the prosecutor’s office said.
In a court document filed in the case, an investigator wrote a resident discovered the baby in a trash bag in a bassinet. The resident and Gee knew each other.
Confronted, Gee allegedly told the resident to “get rid of it,” and allegedly sent threatening messages to the resident after the discovery.
Plus, investigators alleged in the document that the boy’s parents made attempts to have Gee return the child before he was found dead.
Gee allegedly ignored those requests or claimed to have scheduling conflicts preventing from being returned, the affidavit state. She returned to Philadelphia after the discovery, the document states.
The Gloucester-Camden-Salem County Medical Examiner’s Office could not determine the infant’s cause of death because of the body’s condition, the prosecutor’s Office said Tuesday.
Attorney information for Gee was not immediately available Tuesday.
The U.S. Marshals Service apprehended Ebony Gee in the 5400 block of Webster Street in West Philadelphia on Monday, the agency said.
A photo shared by the U.S. Marshals Service
on its social media accounts shows Gee being escorted by two officers outside a set of row homes.
Anyone with information about the case, specifically how the infant died, is urged to contact detectives at the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office at 856-930-5355 or the Camden County police at 609-519-3981.
