NFL RB Quinshon Judkins arrested on domestic violence charge

Cleveland Browns rookie running back

Quinshon Judkins was arrested

Saturday night on a domestic violence charge.

Judkins, 21, was detained following a

“delayed battery” report

in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., police told ESPN in a statement.

“Officers arrived on scene and

spoke with the victim

,” Fort Lauderdale police officer David Soika said. “During their preliminary investigation it was determined a battery had occurred.”

In online jail records, the charge against Judkins was listed as

“touch or strike/battery/domestic violence

.” It is a misdemeanor charge in Florida. Authorities have not released further details about the case.

Both the NFL and the Browns said they were

aware of the situation

and gathering additional information.

The Browns selected Judkins in the second round with the 36th overall pick of April’s NFL Draft out of Ohio State, where he won last year’s national championship. He was

expected to compete to be the team’s starting running back

, as previous star Nick Chubb signed with the Houston Texans after suffering a devastating injury.

Judkins is now the second early-round pick from this year’s NFL Draft to face formal accusations of violence against women. Two weeks ago, a woman filed a civil lawsuit

accusing Buffalo Bills first round pick Maxwell Hairston of sexually assaulting her

while the two were both students at the University of Kentucky.
