Police said Thursday that two males were hospitalized during a knife fight in broad daylight on a run-down Bronx block where a teenager had been tragically stabbed in a fight days before.
According to police sources, the altercation started at 1 p.m. when the two guys, who had been bitter rivals for a long time, collided in a building on Webster Avenue in the Butler Houses complex. According to the sources, the altercation swiftly spread from the lobby into the courtyard.
Both victims were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital by medical personnel.According to authorities, a 49-year-old victim was critically injured after being stabbed in the neck. After being stabbed in the face and back, his 48-year-old opponent was in stable condition.
The large man was stabbed throughout. The slender man sustained multiple stab wounds to his face and body. A 25-year-old guy who saw the altercation told the Daily News, “They were both lying on the floor, saying, I can’t breathe.” There was blood everywhere.
It’s hot. When asked what caused the violence, the witness shrugged and remarked, “Summertime is when tensions get high.”
Both men were raised nearby, a police source told The News. The beef is aged. According to the source, they both have lengthy criminal backgrounds. They have previously engaged in heated exchanges.
The altercation took place on the same block where, earlier this week, 18-year-old Shannon Kelsey was fatally stabbed in the chest during a battle that also left two other people hurt.
The two incidents are not thought to be connected by the police.
