According to authorities, the body of a well-known deejay who had been missing for about three weeks was found in a boat anchored in the same Queens stream where three men had been found dead in the previous two years.
According to police, at around noon on Sunday, a bystander discovered Reda Briki’s decomposing body in his yacht anchored in Newtown Creek close to the Pulaski Bridge in Long Island City.
On Facebook on Tuesday, buddy Tim Fielding posted, “This news may come as a shock.” We are aware that Reda was a friend, brother, and fellow creative soul to a great number of individuals. He moved around the world in a way that was all his own, and his energy was both wild and beautiful. His music brought joy to a lot of people.
Over the past two years, the bodies of three men who had been partying in the neighborhood have been discovered in Newtown Creek, leading to irrational ideas, internet rumors, and even baseless suspicions of a serial killer.
Two of the previous victims were last seen alive at the Brooklyn Mirage club, which is located in the East Williamsburg area of Brooklyn, which is bordered by the stream.
Briki’s initial autopsy by the city medical examiner was inconclusive; further testing is required to ascertain how he passed away. According to investigators, there were no overt indications of trauma on his body.
According to Fielding, Briki passed away in June before being found on Sunday.
Personally, he said, “I was with him five weeks ago, rocking a festival in Devon, taking people on a deep tribal house journey, and living my best life.” Too soon gone. Brother, safe travels back to the music.
The bodies discovered in the ocean have not been linked by police to Briki’s death. On Thursday, Briki was reported missing to the police.
For over three weeks, friends and admirers had been looking for Briki and using fliers and social media posts to inform others about his disappearance.
Briki, 52, was last seen on June 14 leaving Maison Harlem, a French restaurant on St. Nicholas Avenue close to W. 127th Street, where he was DJing that afternoon, according to search organizers.
Briki was regarded as a pioneer in the field of electronic dance music.
According to his website bio, Briki is regarded by his colleagues and dance floor aficionados as one of the most reputable and unyielding up-and-coming leaders in the music industry.
According to his biography, he was born in the French city of Algiers and grew up in the club scene of Paris, which was characterized by thumping grooves, pulsating beats, and pumping rhythms.
According to fellow deejay and fan Behrouz Nasari, he plays with the crowd, so he knows what’s happening on the dance floor. Like the best chef, he is spicing the food with his boundless enthusiasm.
After Damani Alexander partied at the adjacent Knockdown Center in July of last year, his body washed up in Newtown Creek. Even after a thorough investigation by the city medical examiner, the cause and manner of death were labeled as unknown because it was impossible to determine what killed him.
According to investigators, 27-year-old Karl Clemente, a case manager for the child welfare agency in New York City, unintentionally drowned in Newtown stream in June 2023 after having a party at Brooklyn Mirage, which is located close to the stream. Weeks after watching a show at the Mirage, 27-year-old John Castic, a senior analyst at Goldman Sachs, was discovered dead in the creek.
