After an unidentified body was found while searching for missing New York City man Brian Tarrence, Turks and Caicos police are looking into a possible homicide.
The body of a man was discovered on Saturday at approximately 9:05 a.m., according to island police on Sunday.
According to the authorities, the body discovered near Grace Bay was in a decomposition state. There has been no identification.
Sincere sympathies are sent to the deceased’s family and friends by the Royal Turks and Caicos Island Police Force. Acting Commissioner Rodney Adams urged the public to avoid conjecture and to wait for the inquiry to verify the identification through formal channels.
The gory discovery was made while looking for Brian Tarrence, a 51-year-old New Yorker who went missing while on vacation with his wife late last month.
After dining with his wife and taking a boat excursion, he was last seen on June 25.
Surveillance footage of Tarrence departing the couple’s Grace Bay Airbnb at approximately 3:40 a.m. and making his way toward the island’s downtown area was discovered by police and a private investigator hired by the family. He had his phone and wallet on him at the time of his disappearance, and he was dressed in shorts and a t-shirt.
Whether it’s a phone or a charge card, I’m trying to discover something that indicates his last location. Private investigator Carl Defazio told NBC New York, “Then, maybe I’m leaning towards more criminality than anything else.”
Tarrance had no known health problems, the retired NYPD officer told the station.
I believe I would have discovered his wallet, seen a credit card charge, or located him by now if he had been robbed, DeFazio told CBS News New York.
