2 charged after 9 shots fired into occupied Phillipsburg home, police say

According to a news release from the Warren County prosecutor, two individuals have been taken into custody by Phillipsburg police on suspicion of shooting nine rounds into an occupied house on Monday night.

According to the news release released Thursday, Alfatir T. Kelly, 26, of Phillipsburg, and Dorien E. Roberts, 18, of Port Murray, are both charged in relation to the shootings that occurred at Mercer and River streets just before two in the morning on Monday.

Nine rounds were fired into a three-person residence on Mercer Street, according to the police, who were called to the intersection by gunfire picked up by the town’s ShotSpotter system.

According to the announcement, officers discovered shot casings and a stolen automobile from Pennsylvania when they got there. According to the report, as police arrived, a group of persons fled the site.

The charges against the two individuals include conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit criminal mischief, and conspiracy to commit two firearms crimes.

Both are being detained at Belvidere’s Warren County Correctional Center while a motion for pretrial detention is heard the following week.
