After declaring his own plan to retire when his term ends, U.S. Senator Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) ridiculed President Donald Trump.
Trump made several Truth Social postings over the weekend criticizing Tillis for opposing the “big beautiful bill” and threatening to back a primary opponent. Tillis declared that he will not be rerunning for Congress in response to Trump’s threats.
On Sunday, Tillis made fun of Trump for his prior endorsement of Mark Robinson, the former governor of North Carolina. Robinson received a lot of criticism after CNN reported that, using the alias minisoldr, he posted dozens of upsetting remarks on a porn website.
“I appreciate your retirement greetings, Mr. President, and I look forward to collaborating with you to achieve success in 2026. “A word to the wise, let’s avoid minisoldr,” Tillis posted on Sunday on the social media site Xon.

Trump posted on Sunday’s Truth Social to honor Tillis’ retirement.
“Excellent News! He wrote, “Senator Thom Tillis will not be running for reelection.
Tillis stated that the significant Medicaid cuts in the measure would be terrible for North Carolina, hence he will not be supporting it.During the weekend, two Republicans opposed the bill’s advancement: Tillis and U.S. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).
In social media posts, Trump attacked both Republican lawmakers.
“The wonderful people of North Carolina have suffered because of Tom Tillis. Until I assumed office, nothing was done to aid, not even during the devastating flooding. Then something miraculous happened! Tillis is not a doer; she is a talker and a whiner. He is worse than Paul Rand Fauci. Sundayon Truth Social was written by Trump.
On Sunday, Tillis attacked Trump for the plan in a late-night Senate speech.
When President Trump betrays his pledge by removing 663,000 individuals from Medicaid because the financing is no longer available, what do I tell them in two or three years, guys? “Tillis said.”
The precise pledge that Donald J. Trump made in the Cabinet room or in the Oval Office when I was there with finance is unavoidably betrayed by this law in its current form. He stated, “We can go after waste, fraud, and abuse on any programs.”
Tillis narrowly defeated Democratic Senator Kay Hagan in 2014, which contributed to the GOP gaining control of the U.S. Senate. He supported causes like Medicaid expansion, mental health and drug addiction treatment, and assistance for veterans during his more than ten years in office.
Tillis gained notoriety as a more moderate Republican who was prepared to compromise on certain topics. He occasionally ran afoul of his party because of that, most notably in 2023 when Republicans in North Carolina voted to censure him for a number of reasons, including his record on gun control and his opposition to specific immigration laws.
