Gunfire broke out during an unofficial block party in Jersey City that drew several hundred people, leaving five people shot early on Sunday.
Around 1:50 a.m., police heard many gunshots while responding to reports of a raucous crowd and double-parked cars, according to a statement issued by Jersey City officials on Monday.
When officers arrived at Bidwell and Ocean Avenues, they saw a person lying in the street and provided emergency medical assistance.
According to officials, the victim was transported to a local hospital and was listed in critical but stable condition.
Later, police found that the person was carrying an extended magazine, hollow-point bullets, and a defaced handgun. According to officials, they are currently being charged with several weapons offenses.
Three additional individuals with grazing wounds or gunshot wounds to the arms or legs were discovered close by.
According to authorities, a fifth victim was taken in a private vehicle to the hospital and was categorized as critically ill but stable.
According to the police, no further details have been made public and the investigation is still ongoing.
