A new oceanfront restaurant is coming to this popular N.J. Shore destination

An attorney for Seaside Heights’ developer has suggested that work on a new restaurant by the sea could start in the fall after the popular summer travel season.

The restaurant will be erected on the Dupont Avenue Pier, which was destroyed during Superstorm Sandy in 2012 and will be restored. Four years ago, the restaurant’s plans were authorized.

Joseph Coronato, who is representing the developer, The Mabie Group, stated that this restaurant will be open all year round.

According to Ocean County tax records, the development firm paid around $6.3 million for the pier in 2019.

According to Coronato, the Mabie Group intends to rent the pier to outside vendors this summer, just like it did the previous year. These vendors will include a face painter, a vendor selling roasted corn, and a dart-throwing game where participants attempt to explode balloons.

The Ocean View Restaurant will be adjacent to the eatery. The restaurant’s parking lot will be located roughly two blocks from the pier.

The Ocean View Restaurant, a multi-story establishment that also serves as a beach club and wedding venue, is the second restaurant owned by The Mabie Group to operate in that site.

It’s unclear whether The Mabie Group needs to apply for a liquor license for the new restaurant, Dupont Pier Coastal Bar & Grill, or if the Ocean View liquor license can be used instead.

NJ Advance Media reached out to the Mabie Group for comment, but they did not respond.

Borough records show that the restaurant has not been issued a liquor license. Boardwalk eateries are not permitted to have liquor licenses under the current zoning laws.

According to Coronato, the Mabie Group might talk to the municipality about obtaining a liquor license for the new eatery.

When (the restaurant) opens, they might have to do that later, Coronato said.

Since Superstorm Sandy, Seaside Heights has witnessed several redevelopment efforts. According to Mayor Tony Vaz, one of those was the Ocean View Restaurant’s opening a number of years ago.

“Ocean View is a brand-new, gorgeous building,” Vaz remarked. It’s at a fantastic location with a view of the Atlantic Ocean and is very, really lovely.

The Seaside Heights Planning Board and The Mabie Group had an agreement for three kiosks, including the corn vendor, to operate on the pier last year. According to Coronato, those terms ended in May, therefore The Mabie Group needs to get permission to return them. This is anticipated to happen at the board’s June 30 meeting.
