In order to rejoin the cast of a well-liked television series, renowned actress Barbara Streisand is vying for a large pay day.
In a recent Variety podcast, the Hollywood diva claimed that her pay was lower than that of her co-stars in the Meet the Parents movie series. Streisand, 83, made an appearance in Little Fockers, the third part and sequel to Meet the Fockers.
When it was announced that Ariana Grande would be starring in the fourth Meet the Parents movie, Streisand expressed her contempt.
God, oh God. They would have to give me a sizable sum of money since I didn’t receive the same compensation as the others, and I’m furious,” Streisand stated.
In the two films, the EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) winner portrayed Rozalin Focker, the wife of Bernie Focker (Dustin Hoffman) and mother to Greg Focker (Ben Stiller).
According to Streisand, I lived during a period when women were paid less than men. In fact, I received a bonus check from Ron Meyer, who was Universal’s head at the time. It was really lovely.
Streisand promoted her new album, The Secret of Life: Partners, Vol. 2, which comes out on Friday, by appearing on the Just for Variety podcast on Monday. Duets between Streisand and a number of well-known performers, including Paul McCartney, Laufey, Hozier, Sam Smith, James Taylor, Bob Dylan, and others, are included on the CD.
In her 2023 biography, the Evergreen singer talked candidly about her wage discrepancy.
In My Name is Barbra, she writes, “I didn’t inquire about the other actors’ salaries, but I was hurt to learn that Dustin was receiving three times my salary plus a small percentage, which is significant on a film that made $520 million.”
Since the last Fockers movie, Streisand has only appeared in an episode of Modern Family (2016) and The Guilt Trip (2012).
