George Muha’s Take

George Muha’s Take is sponsored by Parisi Speed School of Morristown. Reach out to Parisi today to get bigger, faster and stronger because champions are made in the off-season.

Mendham is my Surprise Team of the Year.  I say that for a few reasons.  First is 6-4, 235-pound TE Declan McKevitt.  Dave McCarthy of The McCarthy Report told me he thinks McKevitt might just be the best at his position in the state.  McKevitt’s been 6-4 for a few years so he’s been able to grow into his body and he moves VERY well.  As a blocker, he’ll have no problem clearing out the lane against most opponents.  And as a receiver, opponents will not want this guy running with the ball in the open field because they just won’t be able to do anything about it.  But McKevitt is not the only reason I like the Minutemen this season.  The other is their line is very athletic.  Dhirmalani and Morales may be sub 200-pound linemen but their athleticism and speed will trip up opposing defensive fronts.  My X-Factor for Mendham is senior Sean Bierals.  Bierals is the best athlete in Mendham HS and probably the biggest gamer in all of Morris-Sussex.  He’s the guy you want with the ball when the game is on the line.  The fact that he’s got McKevitt blocking the way for him is why Mendham has the ability to do something special in 2020.  Prediction:  Opening up with defending champs Par Hills will show Mendham what they are made of.  Seeing Rutgers bound DE Jordan Thompson and McKevitt battle will really be the price of admission.  Win or lose that game, I still expect Mendham to be trouble for every opponent on their schedule and they definitely have the ability to by vying for the division title by the end of the season.
