George Muha’s Take

George Muha’s Take is sponsored by Parisi Speed School of Morristown. Reach out to Parisi today to get bigger, faster and stronger because champions are made in the off-season.

I have to totally confess, after last season’s amazing run to the Sectional Finals, I thought Par High might slip back into “rebuilding mode”.  I even thought about how nice it was for the program to finally get a little success but after graduating a lot of senior starters and knowing Coach Hurta wasn’t returning, I was afraid that might be the extent of the RedHawk’s success for quite awhile.  But that was before my camp visit to Redhawk Nation.  Two weeks ago I took a ride up to the high school and walked my way all the way the way back to George P. Johnson Stadium expecting to see thirty something football players in old beat-up practice jerseys from the 1990s pushing a sled or something.  Oh boy, was I mistaken!  I’ve been visiting preseason football camps for the last 14-years and never, ever have I been around a program with more energy than the 2020 Redhawks (and that is not an exaggeration).  Not only that, they were all wearing matching red 2020 practice swag, they were running drills like a well-oiled machine and there was a vibe there like this program has been winning for thirty years.  And in the center of all of this lively activity was brand spanking new head coach Derrick Eatman directing this orchestra like the maestro I’ve come to find out he is.  Eatman is new to our area (his last stint was as an assistant at Neptune) but has settled in better than any first-year coach that I have ever seen.  He came in to his new role with a massive plan that includes a dynamic playbook, a success driven culture and an intense mindset that is all about winning.  And EVERYONE is buying in.  Prediction:  The Redhawks do not have an easy game on their schedule.  It doesn’t matter.  Again, I didn’t think I’d be saying this a month ago but I believe Par High could just be the team to beat in this division.  I’m totally drinking the red and black Kool-Aid.
