The Skinny & Prediction

  • Senior quarterback/linebacker Gage Armijo is the face of this team.  He’s a tremendous competitor and tough as nails.  He even finished 3rd in the state wrestling tournament at 220-pounds.  If the game is on the line, Mendham is going to want the ball in Armijo’s hands.
  • Senior defensive back Robert Smith is a tremendous athlete in his own right.  Despite being 5-10, 180-pounds, he’s one of the strongest guys on the team.  He especially damaging on special teams.  Last season he blocked four kicks (1 punt and 3FGs/PATS).
  • Coach Brett Ressler has done a fantastic job creating a football culture.  He was a win away from making the playoffs last year, his third year at the helm.
  • The Minutemen are loaded with top quality athletes with varsity experience up and down their line up.  They’ll be tested though because they have a schedule that does not have any easy games.  Winning five games against this schedule is a must if the Minutemen want to make it to the postseason.
  • If Mendham does make it to the Second Season, the competition will get stiffer.  Old Tappan, Phillipsburg, Wayne Hills and Randolph are all slated to be North, Group 4 playoff teams so they’ll have to face the likes of them.  If the Minutemen can stay healthy and find their mojo down the stretch, they might have an opportunity to make a run at the big stadium in the swamp.
