The Skinny & Prediction

  • Senior Jacob Mafaro is one of New Jersey’s top Division I prospects.  The 6-2, 215-pound runningback/linebacker is also the hardest worker on the team and dedicated to transforming his body in the off-season.  Last season, the Cougars road Mafaro all the way to a sectional title.
  • Although Mafaro is the headliner that sells tickets for Kittatinny, even he will tell you that he won’t win a second championship in a row by himself.  And after losing a ton of great athletes graduation, the Cougars will need some younger guys to step up.  Junior QB Luke Williams, sophomore Brycen Mafaro and other younger guys are showing promise they can fill the void.
  • The second half of the season is where it gets tricky for the Cougars.  Facing Parsippany, Lenape, High Point and Newton one after another is tough.  But faring well during that stretch will build confidence heading into the Second Season.
  • Kittatinny should make the playoffs with room to spare.  Getting as high a seed as possible would be a good goal.  Once there, they will likely have to face Group 2 power house teams like Westwood, Rutherford and Caldwell if they want to repeat what they did last year.  If the players around Mafaro can step up, there is no reason the Cougars can’t.
