The Skinny & Prediction

Before taking the Jefferson coach four years ago, coach Jerry Venturino was a very successful state champion QB for Hopatcong as a player and then went on a successful coach there as well, bringing them to the playoffs several times.  He has a history of making things he’s involved with successful.

Middle linebacker / runningback Michael Gould is an absolute menace on both sides of the ball.  He’s 5-7, 170-pounds and plays like he’s 6-5, 265-pounds.  Teams will put their biggest blocker on him or run plays to the other side of the field, but it won’t matter.  He’s that good.

Jefferson’s schedule will be a double edge sword this year.  They play a lot of hard nosed teams week-in and week-out.  The good news is their schedule will overly prepare them for the postseason.  The bad news is getting through their schedule to qualify for the playoffs won’t be easy.

While Gould might be the headliner, the Falcon’s have plenty of other players that can play football.  One guy to keep out for is QB Matt Johnson.  With teams stacking the box against Gould, Johnson has the ability and weapons to put up big numbers through the air.  Their schedule will be tough but this team is definitely built for the postseason.  All Jefferson needs to do is slip into the playoffs.  Then they’ll have to face the likes of Par Hills, Summit and West Essex…all teams their schedule will more than prepare for them for.
