Five Key Points
1. The Vikings will be bringing the beef up front with guys like Justin Meador (5-11, 235), Sean Gleason (5-11, 225) and JT Doyle (6-4, 245). Pound for pound, they’ll have one of the biggest fronts of any team in their conference.
2. Having those big boys will help QB RJ Mehr relax in the pocket. With receiving targets like Jadon, Mutz, Jon Parisi, Ryan Coulther and Joe Carosella, the Vikings could really stretch the field on opponents.
3. A player that is going to give opposing defenses the biggest problem is runningback Jeremy Kayhart (5-10, 215). He’s has deceiving feet which helps him sidestep linebackers. But he’s built like a fullback so when he lowers his shoulder, it typically is trouble for whoever is trying to tackle him.
4. New head coach Steve Down cut his teeth at Newton where he saw the program develop from a struggling squad all the way to a 12-0 state championship superpower. He’s got the energy and know-how of what it takes to bring success to a program. Viking camp had a great vibe all summer with Down at the helm.
5. With opponents hyper-focused on other teams in the conference like High Point, Montville, Sparta and Jefferson, the Vikings will surely bite them if they are over-looked. This team is built for now and there is no reason they can’t be in contention come November.
