Five Key Points

1. Senior Danny Petrasek (6-1, 175) is the mouthful on offense and defense.  Last season he made a name for himself defensively by living in opposing backfields by leading the team in sacks and tackles behind the line of scrimmage.  However, he’s also a tremendous ball carrier as well.  He’s a hard running Larry Csonka type back who uses his long legs to and arms to get every yard he can on every play.
2.  Bo Maroney is another true football player that every coach wishes he has on his roster.  Despite being a great field general on the offensive side of the ball, he’s also the hardest hitting defender and always has a knack for being in the right place at the right time.
3. Coach Brian Stellingwerf is in his second year as head coach after being an assistant for the Mustangs.  He’s a former Pope John player and knows what it takes for a program to win.
4. Navigating this schedule will be the tricky part as they have their fair share of Group 1 teams on their schedule.  The trouble is they are good teams and a loss to them stings hard from a Power Point perspective.  However, Bergen Tech is actually a Group 5 school and a win against them delivers an overflow of PPTs.  This Sussex Tech team will be a fun team to follow.  They have legit football players on their team and if they play their cards right, they could be sitting in a nice position come November.
5.  The Wallkill Valley game is the one to mark on your calendars.  Despite what either team’s record is at that point in the schedule, it will be a game to the final whistle.  It pits former Sussex Tech coach Bobby Leach against his former team – whom the current seniors played for him their freshman and sophomore years.  Although there is only love for their former coach, the Mustangs will be doing everything they can to get the win for bragging rights purposes.
