Five Key Points

1. Senior nosetackle Dom Castellano, sophomore linebacker Tommy Tsangaropoulos, junior linebacker Carlos Navarro and junior corner Kiar Barnes are smart, strong players that bring a lot of emotional intelligence to the defensive side of the ball.  This group works very well together which will helps to keep opposing offenses in check.
2.  The Jeff Chaplin-to-Matt Luttenberger is going to be a hot QB-to-TE connection for the next two years.  The juniors are gelling really well in camp and the 6-3, 215-pound Luttenberger has the softest hands on the team and is a beast once he’s in the open field.
3.  This is coach John Hack’s forth year at the helm.  He’s done a fantastic job changing the culture and energy around Crusader Nation and his team has gotten better each year.  Hack’s style is all about doing what’s best for his players as people first and that has been translating for them doing what’s best for the team.  This will be a big year for Hack as he’s had the current seniors since they were frosh.
4.  The Crusaders schedule is difficult right out of the gate as they face a Weequahic team that is heavily favored to go the distance.  Win or lose, playing that kind of a team first will pay dividends through the rest of the season though because they probably won’t see a team like that again.
5.  Morris Catholic hasn’t been to the playoffs since 2009.  It looks like that slump should end this year.  The school has been doing a fantastic job attracting top talent with excellent academics, new facilities and just a good vibe all around.  All those ingredients help Coach Hack get his Crusaders to the postseason more regularly.
