Five Key Points

1. Linebacker Derek Rooney and NG Ryan Knox bring a lot of strength and toughness in the middle of the defense.  Teams will be forced to run their plays outside the hash-marks and the Rams should win most of the battles of short-yardage downs because of these two.
2.  Runningback Matt Kuntz and slot/RB Ryan McDermott are both explosive play-makers that teams will be forced to over-commit to.  Receiver Jake Flowers should be the go-to guy who benefits the most from those mismatches.
3.  This is coach Will Nahan’s first year as coach.  He’s been on the staff for several years and is a huge proponent of the weight room.  The Rams adopted his training philosophy in the off-season and just about every player came into camp in tremendous shape.
4.  Nahan takes over a storied program that at one time has the longest winning streak in state history.  Randolph has won since then and is always a formidable opponent but it’s been quite awhile since they were so dominant year-in and year-out.  Nahan seems to have the energy and love of the game to try to get the program to where it once was.
5.  Winning early in the season is a must for the Rams as the schedule gets a lot more difficult in the second half of the season.  The good news is every game they play carriers a ton of PPTs.  A five win season might get them to the postseason dance, but obviously getting six or more wins would be a much better insurance plan.
