Five Key Points

1.  For the first time ever, Mendham will be playing their home games under the lights on Friday nights at some point this season.  Forever, Mendham has been a Saturday afternoon team.  Nothing brings out the student section more than a night game.  If Mendham can get a few wins under their belt early, the fans will fill the stands and give the Minutemen a nice home field advantage.
2.  Two sophomores that will likely be thrown into the fire are sophomores QB/WR/DB Sean Bierals and TE/DL Declan McKevitt.  Bierals is the consumate athlete that literally can play every skill position on the field and McKevitt has the size, speed and football IQ to be a Gronk-esk target in the Mendham offense.
3.  This is Coach Ressler’s third year as head coach and the current varsity starters are guys he’s developed since they were JV and freshman players.  That should pay dividends given the current roster is used to Ressler’s playbook, culture and expectations.
4.  Mendham plays a tough schedule year-in and year-out and this schedule is no different.  If Mendham can beat sister school and #1 rival West Morris Central in Week 2 on their own turf, that could give a huge boost of confidence that could carry them through opponents like Sparta, Morris Hills and Jefferson – all of whom are ranked high this season.
5.  The last time that Mendham won a sectional title was in 1975.  If there is ever a team that has been due for a state championship it is the Minutemen.  Quenching the drought won’t be easy for this squad.  But if they can navigate their regular opponents with enough Power Points to get a postseason bid, they’ll certainly be battle tested to handle any team they’ll face in the postseason.
