Players

Franchise Player: Junior runningback Nick Molinari (6, 205) came on the scene last year rushing for nearly 1,000 yards. He’s a big punishing type of back that is built to get those tough yards but can also run around the end and beat everyone for a long touchdown.
Hottest Selling Jersey: Senior RB/LB Drew Pickett (6-185) is a play-maker that will make an impact on both sides of the ball. Pickett always has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. His #33 jersey is already on back order.
All Everything Watch: Senior linebacker John Spada (5-10, 175) will be the heart and soul of the Patriot’s D. Before opposing quarterbacks run through their pre-snap cadence, they will make sure they know where Spada is lined up.
Under the Radar: Sophomore RB/DB Trey Kaplan (5-10, 160) has been making a name for himself this off-season. He’s a strong player who seems to have made the transition to varsity football pretty easily.
Lives in the Weight Room: Lineman Joe Seck is strong as an ox and will be really tough for opposing teams to do much against. The 5-10, 245-pound senior has quick feet which makes him extremely valuable on both sides of the line.
Could Play in Any Era: Junior OL/DL Rocco Bonovalonta is a guy who could easily play in the leather helmet days. He’s a throwback type of player that was a wrecking machine as a sophomore. Now at 5-11, 250-pounds he actually has dropped weight so he can move quicker which spells disaster for opposing teams.

Five Key Points

1. Legendary coach Don Smolyn runs the Wing-T which relies on quick, well disciplined linemen. This year’s front also has packed on some muscle so the running lanes should be a lot bigger. Expect this team to put up a lot of offensive yards on the ground.
2. Smolyn has been coaching for 43-years and doesn’t seem to be slowing down. The young 20-something coaches who got the nod this year as head coach around the league don’t seem to have the energy he has.
3. Staying healthy is going to be key against this schedule as it doesn’t have any week’s where the Patriots will be able to rest their starters.
4. The Pats will be giving a lot of young sophomore players a chance to step up so expect to see some new names on Walt Wormann’s (the “Sign Guy”) signs.
5. Lenape opens up against the defending state champions Newton Braves who haven’t lost a game since 2016. Newton’s coach Matt Parzero is a former Lenape Valley star player and assistant coach under Smolyn. Last season Parzero handled the Patriots. Smolyn has likely been planning to exact revenge ever since. Beating Newton will be a huge boost of confidence which won’t hurt to gain early against this killer schedule.
