Players

Franchise Player:  Senior OL/LB Anthony Salvemini (5-11, 225) is a monster on both sides of the ball and is already giving opposing coaches nightmares.  He’s a three-year starter is always in the middle of the action on both sides of the ball.
Hottest Selling Jersey:  Matt Tuli’s number 7 jersey is already flying off the shelves in anticipation to this season.  The 6-2, 210-pound junior QB is a big athletic passer with a strong arm.  He’s the kind of guy who isn’t rattled easily and doesn’t seem to get nervous when the pocket collapses.  He’s also the consummate leader and was voted captain as a junior.
All Everything Watch:   A player who will be a force to recon with is junior TE/LB Kyle Junda.  The 5-10, 175-pound TE/LB is a multi-sport athlete who packed on about 25-pounds of muscle in the off-season.   Junda is big, fast, strong with great hands and an exceptional route runner so he’ll be a favorite target for Tuli..
Under the Radar: One of the fastest kids on the team is junior RB/DB Ethan Gayle (5-7, 160).  He can break a big run anytime he touches the football and gives the Hornets that play-maker type of guy that can come up big in big moments.
Lives in the Weight Room: Senior WR/DB Rich Corrao (5-8, 165) has led by example with his work ethic in the weight-room.  He’ll be that guy that gets called on to get a tough first down on O or make a tough stop on D.
Could Play in Any Era: Senior OL/LB Kevin Julich (6, 170) is one of the smartest kids in the school that uses his brains and toughness to be a leader on both sides of the football.

Five Key Points

1. The big news for the Hornets is their new coach Dan Fulton.  Fulton has been an assistant for the last few years before getting the nod.  He cut his teeth as a player and coach at Par Hills under Dave Albano so he grew up in a high-tempo type of offense and defense that’s designed to spread the field.  Fulton wasted no time introducing this style at Hanover Park.
2.  Fulton needs to have a player to step up to be that “coach on the field” type of player who can read a defense and make adjustments on the fly to make this offense work.  Quarterback Matt Tuli is that guy and the fact he’s only a junior, these two should gel together better and better over the next two years.
3.  Despite the fact that Hanover Park is a playoff regular, they only have one state championship (1990) to their name.
4.  The Hornet’s open up against West Essex for the coveted Cosmo Cardone Memorial Cup, which honors the late Hanover Park guidance counselor and West Essex football parent
5.  With the schedule change this year, the Hornet’s lose their annual game against Lenape Valley which was shaping up to be a big rivalry game.  But HP did pick up Par Hills, Fulton’s old stomping grounds, so perhaps that game will end up being that game that carriers a lot of fanfare.
