Mountain Lakes defeated Whippany Park in overtime with a score of 14-7. Touchdowns from Jake Schicke, Jake Marshall and a strong late game surge helped the Herd in conquering the Wildcats another victory.
There were solid defensive plays from both teams that kept both offenses from advancing for most of the first three quarters. Despite three turnovers from Whippany Park the first half ended with no points on the board and two hungry fan sections waiting for some action.
Coming back into the third quarter, Wildcat quarterback Luke Papa scampered for an 8-yard touchdown run to end the scoreless tie between both teams. But the Herd answered right back with a 72-yard touchdown pass from Mountain Lakes quarterback Jack Baker to Jake Schicke tied the score in the fourth quarter, moving the game into overtime.
In OT, Baker found Jake Marshall in the endzone on their first possession with an 11-yard touchdown pass that ultimately turn out to be the game-winning touchdown.
Mountain Lakes’ win placed themselves and Caldwell at a tie for the NJSFC American Blue Division. Lakes plans on climbing up the ladder in Power Point rankings after a win in the North Jersey Section 2, Group 2 against Whippany Park. They entered the week five points behind Lenape Valley and two spots and two points behind Whippany Park.
