Whippany Park conquered yet another opponent to add to their 5-0 undefeated streak with a score of 42-27 against Montclair Immaculate. The Wildcats’ team win was contributed by every single player who stepped on the field and headlined by impressive performances by Jake Crane, Luke Papa, Matt Wong, Mike Dimeo and Corey Ficchi.

To kick things off in the first quarter, Wildcat quarterback Luke Papa connected on a pass to the reliable Matt Wong, placing the Cats four short yards away from the end zone. Jake Crane then made his way into the touchdown zone putting points on the board to start up the game, making the it 7-0. Later in the quarter, Crane found his way to the end zone again ending the quarter with a score of 14-0.

Transitioning into the 2nd quarter, Montclair runningback Jah’Simer Hill got his hands on the ball and cooked it down the field with a 60-yard touchdown, narrowing the score 14-6. Montclair’s Chris Jones continued their momentum by making a leaping interception and taking it down the field 25-yards, putting Montclair in scoring position.

Quarterback Ibn Barnes made a 15-yard pass to running back Younjay Thomas, where he placed it in range for a touchdown. Montclair running back Chris Jones took the plunge on a 2-yard touchdown making the score 14-12. With the Wildcats on the 25-yard line, the dynamic Papa scampered to end-zone ending the half with a score of 21-13 in Whippany Park’s favor.

Returning into the second half, quarterback Papa launched a missile for 40-yards into the hands of Wildcat receiver Matt Wong, making the score 27-13. Whippany’s defense had a tough time slowing down Montclair’s agile wide receiver Elwin Hughes as he flew into the end-zone on a 35-yard touchdown creeping closer to Whippany with a score of 27-20. Later in the quarter, Whippany Park answered by as running back Corey Ficchi glued his hands to the ball diving into the end zone on a 10-yard TD pass making the score 34-19.

During the final quarter of the game, Wildcat tailback Michael Roma intercepted the ball and took it back to Wildcat territory with a 40-yard run. Whippany fumbled the ball and lost possession sending it back into Montclair’s hands.

On the next pass, Whippany Park’s Tailback Michael Dimeo picked off the ball for a 15-yard touchdown changing the score yet again to 42-20. Montclair came back again with another 3-yard touchdown to end this crazy back-and-forth battle with score of 42-27, with Whippany Park on top. Next Friday, the Wildcats welcome and play Mountain Lakes on their home turf as Montclair Immaculate plays away at Marist.

Mike Roma led the team in tackles with a total of 12. Coming right behind Roma, Jake Crane came in with 10 tackles. On the ground, Luke Papa rushed 175-yards on 22 carries and passed a total of 89 yards. Jake Crane rushed a total of 86 yards on 11 carries.
