The Coach

Name: Mike Moschella
Skinny: Hopatcong made the head coaching move of the year in all of North Jersey by naming assistant Mike Moschella their head man. This guy was born with a clipboard in his hand, is a disciple of Lenape Valley coach Don Smolyn (played for him in the mid-2000s) and has an excellent way with his players. Moschella is the youngest coach in Morris-Sussex but he’s a veteran in coaching years. There is no doubt in the minds of anyone who knows Coach Moschella that his teams will be very well prepared and very ready to win.

The Players

Franchise Player: The face of this team is senior RB/LB Anthony Mastroeni. Mastroeni is a tough player which the entire defense rallies around.
Hottest Selling Jersey: Senior runningback Armando Santiago is a play maker who can turn a two-touchdown deficit to a one touchdown lead in one quarter.
All Unruly Watch: Defensemen Jason Cranmer and Joey Juliano are guys who can play multiple positions on defense, with Cranmer moving from DB to LB depending on the scenario and Juliano moving from DL to LB. These dynamic guys will make it hard for opposing offenses to plan against.
Under the Radar: Junior QB Danny Farina can make a big name for himself this season. He’s got all the tools to help this Chief’s team do something special.
Benching the Weight Room: Linemen brothers Zack and Tyler Kennedy are strong guys who bring a lot of veteran experience and leadership to this team. These two will be the reason this team has at least 2,000 yards of offense this season.
Throwback: A player who could’ve played in any era is senior Zach Huapaya. When lined up like a fullback he’s battering ram who makes it his mission to ensure his runningbacks don’t get touched, let alone tackled.

I am very excited about new coach Mike Moschella. Every coach that was mentored under Lenape Valley’s Coach Smolyn has been a tremendously successful. Navigating this schedule won’t be easy but teams that take Moschella and the Chief’s lightly will pay for it. Moschella will leverage Smolyn’s Wint-T and with this group of talented players, they will be able to compete in every game. Wins will be rewarded with lots of Power Points so being even 4-4 at the 8-game cutoff might be enough to get DaCong into the dance. Once there, they only need two wins to be walking through the tunnel of MetLife Stadium.
