Vitals

Coach: Adam Vazquez
Year on the Job: 3rd
Home Field: Grass
2015 Record: 2-8
2016 Nemesis: Kinnelon

Players

Freakishly Talented: Junior QB Dylan Harlos gives the Rangers a dual threat who can run like a runningback and has a terrific arm.
Where’s the Beef: Senior center Drue Milligan (6-2, 280) and senior tackle Adam Vanderwiele (6-3, 255) are big athletic types who set the tone for this offense.
Will be a Household Name: Sophomore runningback Mike Torres will make an immediate impact to this offense. He’s got real deal speed and can break ankles with his ability to cut on a dime.
Beast Watch: Everyone is going to know about junior DE Aidan Murray. He’s 6-4 and 235-pounds and is one of the fastest kids on the team. Trust me, this guy is a total monster.

2016 Prediction

I am loving how this team is shaping up. First coach Adam Vazquez made a brilliant move to take his star runningback in Dylan Harlos and converted him into a QB. This was made easier by the fact that Harlos also has the best arm on the team.

The reason it was such a smart move is that the Rangers have a pool of receivers all who bring a real downfield threat. Jake Lonsky, Justin Rivera, Jon Sienkiewicz, Pete Mastroianni and Alfred Boye-Codjoe are the targets Harlos will look to.

After two seasons with just two wins, the 2016 has their sights set on a lot more success on the field (photo by George Muha).

The trick for Wallkill Valley is navigating a schedule that gives them no time to catch their breath. The first three games pit them against a loaded Kinnelon team, a Hackettstown team that is surely playoff bound and a Lenape Valley team that some say is the most talented that school has ever had.

The good news for the Rangers is if they can do what they think they can and hold their own against these opponents, they will be battle tested come playoff time.

Since Coach Vazquez took over three years ago, his winning progression is on an upward trend. Winning five games will likely get them the black and white an invite to the dance.

Once in the playoffs, the Rangers will be a dangerous opponent. Their high flying and dynamic offense allows them to hang with anyone. There is no reason they couldn’t ride that all the way.
