Vitals

Coach:  Chris Kubik
Year on the Job: 10th
Home Field: Turf
2015 Record: 10-2
2016 Nemesis: Lenape Valley and Hanover Park

Players

Freakishly Talented: Without runningback PJ Mulcahy I’m not sure Madison wins a state title. Mulcahy got better and better with every game last season culminating by earning the MVP of the state championship game.
Where’s the Beef: Two guys who are able to take two opposing players out each every play are lineman Max Downing and Yiakos Kostidakis. These two are dynamic players that make their impact felt on both sides of the ball.
Emotional Leader: Nose tackle Griffin Meister is a heart and sole kind of player who can get everyone fired up.
Household Name: By halftime in Week 1, everyone is going to know who sophomore Matty Mulcahy is. Remember his name, trust me!
Beast Watch: When DT Dante DiIonno starts getting fired up, the Dodger players just point him to the opposing team and let him do his thing. He’s a one man wrecking crew!

2016 Prediction

In 2010 Madison won a state title and then over the next two seasons they won two more. Madison is just not a one and done kind of team. When they start winning they seem to get stronger with every game. Now on a 9-game win streak it appears as though they are just getting heated up on another championship run.

Personnel-wise there is no issue. Yes, they did lose the Dalena cousins, Coviello, Mobley, Luppino, Shupe, etc. But there are new names who look like they are ready to fill their shoes. The new names you will hear this year will be guys like Boyd, Schmitz, Monaco, Kearney, etc.

During Chris Kubik's tenure he's build a big reputation for always playing tough defense (photo by Mattie Marano).

But make no bones about it, Madison does not have it easy. They do not have an effortless game on the schedule. Right off the bat they face Lenape Valley, who looks to be as talented as they have been in a long time and a Verona squad who is coming off a Group 1 championship of their own. After that, it only gets harder.

Last season Madison led with the run game all the way to a state championship (photo by Mattie Marano).

I wouldn’t get too depressed if you are a Dodger fan. Coach Chris Kubik is a big weight room guy and has already made sure his players are strong enough to weather a though nine game schedule.

Can Madison repeat by getting another championship? Absolutely!

Madison reputation for strong skill players always makes them hard to pass against (photo by Mattie Marano).
