2013 Week 9 Predictions

Thursday Night Lights
Pequannock (3-5) @ Butler (7-1)
George Muha: I LOVE how Pequannock dug deep a few times to fight for wins after tough losses this season. But I don’t know if they’ll be able to dig deep enough against this tough and talented Butler team.
PICK: Butler 21-14

Friday Night Lights
Vernon (1-7) @ West Morris (5-3)
George Muha: I feel bad because I really haven’t given WMC the love they’ve deserved all year. Well they’ve shoved it to me by finishing with a 5-3 record and earning the second best Power Points in their North 2, Group 4 state section…well a 6-3 record after this game.
PICK: Da Pack 39-12

Mount Olive (3-5) @ Roxbury (3-5)
George Muha: A tough season for these two teams. Look for Mike Moran to finish his senior season by handing rival Roxbury a loss on their home field as he walks off the field for his second to last time.
PICK: Marauders 30-20

Jefferson (6-2) @ Kittatinny (4-4)
George Muha: Jefferson, I don’t mean to pour salt on old wounds but what the heck happened last week (40-14 loss to Hoboken)??? Okay, okay, everyone is allowed to let one game get away from them…but no more of that. It’s playoff time soon!
PICK: Jefferson 27-20

Madison (5-2) @ Newton (4-4)
George Muha: Madison basically needs to win today if they want to help themselves get to the playoffs. If they lose, they’ll need some outside help. But I believe this is a bigger game for Newton.  Newton has earned their seat in the playoffs no matter what happens in this game. But I believe if Newton loses, they will come out flat for the playoffs. But if they win, they’ll be rolling with a ton of confidence.
PICK: Newton 28-27

Mendham (3-4-1) @ Montville (1-7)
George Muha: Mendham is the weirdest team I’ve seen this year. They have all of the talent in the world, but in my opinion they play down to the level of their competition. If the Minutemen can start to play the level they are capable of, I see them going up against Philipsburgh (it will be Philipsburgh trust me) at MetLife in a few weeks.
PICK: Mendham 40-13 (I am predicting Mendham finally figures themselves out this week)

Boonton (4-4) @ Kinnelon (3-5)
George Muha: Boonton has got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire, cause they are a champion and Kinnelon’s gonna hear them roar.  I know I am a loser for admitting this, but I love that song!
Pick: Boonton 33-26

Dover (5-3) @ Parsippany (1-7)
George Muha: I love how Parsippany showed some heart this year! But I equally love how Dover football is back baby! If I wish for any team to win a state title this year, it’s the Tigers! No school deserves it more.
PICK: Dover 39-10

Hackettstown (1-7) @ Warren Hills (4-4)
George Muha: Okay Hackettstown, as much as I take pride in my predictions, I want you to prove me wrong this week.
PICK: Warren Hills 24-14

Hanover Park (6-2) @ Lenape Valley (4-4)
George Muha: I hate playing at Lenape Valley on a Friday night. It’s just so freaky because it feels like half the town shows up, there are people dressed up as colonial soldiers and fans with crazy signs (I actually LOVE the sign guy). Lenape definitely has the whole home team advantage thing going for them. But us Hornets (1993 alumn) know we need as much momentum going into the playoffs as possible so we’re gonna be All Business.
PICK: HP 40-35

Parsippany Hills (6-2) @ High Point (2-6)
George Muha: Nothing would be better for High Point than giving their fans something to cheer about on their last home game of the season. Unfortunately, Par Hills’ is in no mood to allow an upset.
PICK: Par Hills 30-12

Saturday Afternoon
Delbarton (7-1) @ Pope John (8-0)
George Muha: I know Pope John is not going to like this but I actually like Delby in this match up. Out of all the teams I’ve seen this year in Morris Sussex, they are the most complete team from top to bottom. Yeah I know PJ has Sonny, Noah, Izzo, etc. Delby has a long list of characters as well. But the X-factor for Delby will be sophmore fireplug runningback Colonel Andrew Sanders.  I honestly haven’t seen a kid play with as much heart as this kid in like ten years.
PICK: Delby 39-38

Morris Hills (4-4) @ Chatham (0-8)
George Muha: MoHills did a real nice job over coming a bunch of adversity this year. I see them winning the next two and ending this season with thier heads held high.
PICK: MoHills 30-23

North Warren (6-2) @ Morris Catholic (1-7)
George Muha: North Warren is freaking good.
PICK: NW 38-20

Randolph (4-3-1) @ Morris Knolls (5-3)
George Muha: Wow, here is another good game! Randolph wins for two reasons, the Rams know how to play against the Veer and QB Connor “Sunshine” Logoyda is my favorite player.

Morristown (3-5) @ Sparta (7-1)
George Muha: Well look who backed themselves into the playoffs with last week’s win over Mendham. Congrats Motown! This will be your first test of what it will be like to play a state final caliber team. I honestly feel this week will be tougher than anyone you will face in the playoffs so use this game to mentally prepare yourselves for the upcoming weeks.
PICK: Sparta 34-13

Mountain Lakes (8-0) @ Whippany Park (2-6)
George Muha: I’m calling right now that Whippany Park QB Dante Stefanelli has the best game of his career for the Wildcats. The Herd wins but it is will be too close for their comfort while Stef leaves it all on the field.
PICK: Herd 34-30

Hopatcong (5-3) @ Wallkill Valley (1-7)
George Muha: If I ever have another kid I am going to name him Johann Lara…I freaking love this kid! I’d love it for the Cong to do something special in the playoffs but I wouldn’t over look Wallkill. They are poised to spoil Hopatcong’s mood.
PICK: Da Cong 21-15

Newark Acedemy (1-5) @ Morristown-Beard (5-3)
George Muha: If my fantasy league allowed for a special teams player I’d trade my #1 pick for MoBeard return specialist Matt McFadden. He’s definitely the Devin Hester of Morris Sussex.
PICK: Bearded Freakshows 41-12

South Hunterdon (7-0) @ Sussex Tech (4-4)
George Muha: It’s like this…SH has not lost a game all year and is not about to lose this one. But ST does have the ability to pull an upset. But I am still going with the Hunterdons.
PICK: Hunterdons 21-14

How I did last week: 13-7 (65%)
How I’m doing this season: 113-38 (74.83%)

George Muha has been covering high school sports since 2006. He feels high school scholar-athletes are the most important part of the community and highlighting their achievements on the field, in the classroom and within the community is his personal mission.
