Sparta Celebrates Homecoming with a Big 45-0 Blowout of Vernon

Saturday marked the annual homecoming game for Sparta so the fans were out in droves. The Spartan faithful were in for a treat too as their beloved team out-dueled Vernon in a 45-0 blowout.

The Spartans jumped off to an immediate fury of points with Lucas Faria rushing his 7th touchdown of the season within the first 2 minutes of the game. It didn’t take long for the Spartans to strike again as Teddy Fischer brought in a 38 yard touchdown pass from Junior Quarterback Anthony Argula to make the score 14-0 in a hurry.

Fischer would connect again for a 36 yard touchdown this time with Senior Captain and Quarterback Matt Seville the following drive. With 3:58 left in the first quarter it was already 21-0.

Meanwhile the defense for Sparta was sensational! The rush defense was especially effective, barely ever letting the Vikings running backs cross the line of scrimmage.

The Spartans would continue to trounce the Vikings, with running back Lucas Faria rushing for two more touchdowns. This final touchdown was Faria’s ninth in just three games.

The Defense from Sparta never once allowed the Vikings into the redzone, and threw up an impressive “0” points allowed on the scoreboard.

When asked about how valuable the defense is to him in taking off some of the pressure for him at quarterback, Senior Matt Seville replied, “They don’t get enough credit really, especially for where they give us field position, it’s a huge help for the offence.” And he was not mistaken, it seemed almost every time the Spartans

took the ball on offence they were on the 50 yard line or closer.”

The Spartan’s are rolling, as this makes three straight huge victories. It seems as though the Spartans are really starting to click.

When asked about how the atmosphere in the locker room is, starting Cornerback Anthony Longo said, “Its really good right now, but we got a big game next week and gotta keep the intensity up.”
