The Coach

Name: Joe Coltelli
Skinny: Coach Coltelli is the kind of guy you want your kid playing for. He’s very serious about football but never lets his players play uptight. Whenever you see a Kittatinny game, you’ll notice that the kids are just focused on playing and not worried about some coach screaming in their ear. This culture has served the Cougars well as the program has developed under Coach Coltelli. Coltelli does all the right things by the players and that’s going to make it all the sweeter when he finally gets that state championship title…which he will get at some point.
2016 Record: 3-7

The Players

Franchise Player: In case you sleep under a rock, then you know that junior RB Zach Mafaro (5-10, 200) is the guy that fills the stands on on game days. Mafaro is a man among boys and has been since the sixth grade when he was able to grow a full beard. As a sophomore, he rushed for 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Hottest Selling Jersey: Junior linebacker Anthony Cagno (5-10, 190) is a fun player to watch. He’s big (6, 200) and flies around the field. Whenever there is a pile on the field, Cagno is at the bottom of it.
All Unruly Watch: Yes, Zach has a brother. That’s not even the half of it. Not only is he just as talented as his bigger brother, he’s also bigger. Sophomore fullback Jacob Mafaro (6-2, 210) runs like a gazelle and hits like an elephant. No one on this schedule will have an answer for the younger Mafaro.
Under the Radar: Senior TE/DE Justin Modafferi is on no one’s radar right now because he was injured last season. But if he did play last season, he would have been one of the top players. Now that he’s healthy, he’ll make up for lost ground.
Benching the Weight Room: You got to love the fact that Kittatinny’s senior QB James Franco is the strongest player on the team. Franco was another guy that missed some time last year due to injuries but after a huge offseason in the gym, he’ll be durable enough to ride with this team all season long.
Throwback: Receiver Jack Sikora is a tough as nails player who fights for every yard. He’s reminiscent of old time receivers from the black-and-white footage where the ball catchers would scratch and claw for every inch. Senior Justin Voss (5-9, 175) is another player that has been playing on the V-squad since his sophomore year and has racked up a ton of tackles, sacks, forced fumbles and fumble recoveries.

Prediction

Kittatinny is the scariest team in this division. Everyone is focusing on the teams with all the fanfare like Newton, High Point, Lenape Valley, etc. But Kittatinny is a like a heavy weight boxer who can hit as hard as all of them. There is absolutely no reason the Cougars should not be in the playoff dance come November. Once there, they’ll likely have to get through familiar foes in High Point and Newton to advance…as well as other playoff regulars like Westwood and Pequannock. But if they can stay healthy, their power is capable of knocking those big boys down.
