The Coach

Name: Jason Luciani
Skinny: Luciani likes to play basketball with his offense by spreading them out and throwing down field A LOT. His teams are ALWAYS well prepared and slays the regular season year-after-year. The problem for Luciani is he plays in the dreaded North 1, Group 1 section which you can apparently only get in if you have one loss or less. Luciani would do massive damage in the postseason if he can get there. But in recent years, he hasn’t been able to get there due to circumstances out of his control. If he does get back into the postseason (which he will), look out!
2016 Record: 7-3

The Players

Franchise Player: The face of this team is junior runningback Sean Centinaro (5-10, 170) and everyone already knows it. Ceninaro has been accounting for at least 1,000 yards of offense since his freshmen year.
Hottest Selling Jersey: A jersey you need to get before it sells out is #5, Declan Minogue (5-11, 170). The senior has been patiently waiting in the wings to get his chance at QB and he’s going to be great. He’s also one of the best kicker’s in Morris-Sussex, as he went 39-43 in PATs last season. As a sophomore, he went 6-6 in the Bulldog’s 42-41 upset game over Madison.
All Unruly Watch: I hope colleges are wise to senior lineman Elias Tadros (6-3, 240) because this guy should be starting on a college team right now. He’s on our postseason All Unruly Awards watch list because of the way he blocks 3-4 defenders on every play.
Under the Radar: By 4:00pm on September 9th, everyone in Morris-Sussex is going to know who senior WR Pat Brady (5-10, 160) is. He’s big playmaker-type with excellent quickness that Coach Luciani loves to stretch the field with.
Benching the Weight Room: Senior lineman Josh Fane (5-11, 200) did a superb job in the offseason training and won the title of Strongest Player on the Team. That’s going to bode well for the Bulldogs when they need this key cog down the stretch when things get tough and opponents get tired.
Throwback: A guy who should be playing in the 1940’s with leather helmets is senior linebacker Jake Grecco (5-9, 170). He’s a tough player with a constant motor that will be a huge headache for opposing offensive coordinators.

Prediction

Butler was shafted out of a playoff spot two years in a row despite posting very good records at the 8-game cutoff. I predict this season Coach Lusciani is going to do everything possible, even if it means to go 8-0 by the cutoff, to remove any excuses from the playoff gods not to let them in. Unless something weird happens with the Power Points, I see this Bulldog team getting in and being a legit contender in this section. Luciani can play basketball with the best of them and is due for a trip to MetLife Stadium.
