The Coach

Name:  Chuck Tepper
Skinny:  Ask any opposing coach in Morris-Sussex and they will tell you they know when they face a Chuck Tepper coached team that his squad is going to take their pound of flesh from them no matter what the final score is.  Tepper is as good as they come and he has a knack for stinging teams when it counts.  Pope John has fell prey to them a few times over the years.   In fact just a few years ago, Tepper sent a Lions team loaded with eventual D1 players home with a big L.
2016 Record:  4-6

The Players

Franchise Player: In case you were wondering, no Vernon tailback Mike Stefkovich (6, 215) didn’t graduate two years ago. He’s actually been starting varsity since his freshman year and he’s finally a senior. Stefkovich is a leader who’s wrapped up the last four years into ton of experience he’ll be using to lead the Vikes this season.
Hottest Selling Jersey: Everybody’s going to want Zach Biango’s #33 jersey this season. The 6, 185-pound senior RB/DB is an explosive player who can bust an 80-yard TD on any given play.
All Unruly Watch: All eyes are on junior OLB Jeremy Kayhart (5-8, 200). He’s your typical tough player that Vernon seems to breed.
Under the Radar: Junior linemen JT Doyle, Sean Gleason, Justin Meador, Chandler Blaine and Luca Ondris weigh in at 1,200-pounds collectively and are all capable of winning starting positions. This group of juniors adds a lot of depth at the most important positions on the line.
Benching the Weight Room: Senior tackles Eric Ames (6, 215) and Walter Lecaros (6-1, 300) are not only big weight room guys but they are also veterans which will help to bring along the younger guys.
Throwback: Senior WR/DB Kevin Parisi (5-11, 180) is a tough hard hitting player who would fit could have easily played in 1977, let alone 2017.

Prediction

To me, Vernon is a Venus fly trap that looks like a benign reed that teams will think they can brush right by. But just as they are about to pass, WHAM, they get pancaked by a senior linebacker named Matt Musciotto (6, 175) who put on 20-pounds of muscle in the offseason. If these guys are on my schedule, I would dread this game. Coach Tepper ALWAYS has his team prepared no matter what. And this season he is strong where others on this schedule are not – the line. Getting to the playoffs won’t be easy and winning four games at the cutoff will probably be more than enough to get them in. Once they do get there, there is no reason they can’t wrecking ball their way to MetLife.
