The Coach

Name: Matt Parzero
Skinny: Parzero is still a young coach who’s doing an excellent job carving out a legacy of his own. He actually spent his playing days at Lenape Valley where he learned from the Godfather of Morris-Sussex football, Don Smolyn. Then he went on to North Warren to turn a small Group 1 school into an 8-game winning team year-in and year-out. Two years ago, he got the nod as Newton’s head man where he hasn’t skipped a beat.
2016 Record: 8-2

The Players

Franchise Player: Unless you live under a rock, then you know senior runningback Chase Cramer (5-11, 195) is an absolute alien. This kid has been starting varsity since 8th grade (it seems). He put on 15-pounds of muscle this offseason and was clocked at 4.5 speed. Cramer can start in college right now…trust me.
Hottest Selling Jersey: Senior QB Luke Young (6-3, 180) is the glue that holds this team together. He’s everything that you’d want in a quarterback. He can run or throw and you can even find tape of him blocking down field. As a safety, he’s fearless and had 17-tackles in one game last season.
All Unruly Watch: A player that can be the X-Factor for the Braves is TE/DE Jonny VanNess (6-1, 210). This guy has a high football IQ and is always where the action is.
Under the Radar: A guy who would be the featured player on most Morris-Sussex teams is Jaiden Elliott (5-11, 165). With opponents focusing their attention on Cramer and Young, Elliot will make them pay especially in the return game.
Benching the Weight Room: Junior LB Ryan Kaiser (5-10, 205) is the leader in the weight room for sure. What you have to love about this kid is off the field he’s a total gentleman, but when he straps on his helmet he turns into an animal.
Throwback: Senior G Justen Samiljan (5-11, 230) literally put on 40-pounds this offseason…and increased his already quick speed. Samilgan is basically a fullback who is playing guard to open holes for his skill guys.

Our Prediction

In the Chinese culture, 2017 is the Year of the Rooster. In Morris-Sussex, it is the Year of the Braves. I honestly don’t see anything slowing these guys down until they get to their state section. Once they get to the playoffs, things will get tougher with the likes of High Point, Pequannock and Westwood likely waiting for them. Don’t get me wrong, even the best of teams need to stay focused week-in and week-out, stay healthy and get a few lucky breaks. However, this team is built for now and don’t be surprised if these boys aren’t walking through the tunnels of MetLife Stadium come December.
